Pleasanton Half Marathon

PaleoJoe and I ran the Pleasanton Half Marathon on Sunday.  The night before I had gotten very little sleep.  That’s kinda my fault.  I had put three loads of laundry on my bed in the morning so that I would HAVE to fold and put them away before I can go to bed.  The thing is, I got home about 1130 at night at I had to be up at 430 to get ready for the race.  Normal people would shove it all in a basket and deal with it later.  I can’t.  I have to fold it.  I finished about 1 in the morning and I was tired, but hey at least the laundry got done right?!

I had set my alarm with threats of violence, but instead of hitting the snooze button when it went off I hit the off button.  My brain knew that they were empty threats.  If PaleoJoe hadn’t texted me later I would have slept the morning away.  There are advantages to waking up early in the morning though:

We got to the race with 30 minutes to spare.

The course was nice and smooth.  There were maybe 2 or 3 small hills, but like I said they were small hills.  What I liked about this race is that it took us through parts of Pleasanton that I hadn’t been before.  Whenever I’d visited it was just to see my family or go to the mall.  I never really explored it.  There were small vineyards, a horse race track, and downtown looked awesome.

Since this was PaleoJoe’s second half marathon and we haven’t really been run training (we weight train mostly) we ran 2 and rested 1.  Miles 9-12 were a long boring straightaway.  The rest was nice and scenic with turns every so often.  About mile 10 is when it started to rain which was nice because it gets hot when you run.  It was refreshing and the rain smell afterwards was nice.  Mile 12 was supposed to be a run, but I had jumped onto PaleoJoe’s back to pose for a fun picture and for some reason my left calf muscle decided it was time to cramp up.  😛

We finished the race in 2 hours and 49 minutes.  POW!!  We have two medals because we ran the Norcal Half Marathon in February, and if you complete the two race series this is your reward.  We helped ourselves to a bottle of water, orange slices and a banana before leaving the park.  We were still hungry so we stopped at Safeway for a post-race feast!

Best post-race meal EVER!!

Would I run this race again?  Absolutely!  If they could change miles 9-12 from that long boring straightaway to something else that would be ideal.  Other than that it was a good race.
